Italy: Leaving the bad weather behind us

When we arrived in Genoa at Friday night the 9th october it was raining cats and dogs. With help of our new digital map we were able to find the camping ground in Genoa/Pegli really quick. We walked to the seaside and found a small local place to eat, to get some food – real Italian pizza of course 🙂

During the night it didn´t stop raining and when we arrived at the local Land Rover dealer we saw what the weather caused. The whole surrounding was covered by mud. The owner was sitting in front of his store and just shook his head – sorry today we are closed. In the next street everybody was walking around in rain boots trying to get rid of the mud in their stores. Even the cars were full of dirt. They told us that their quarter is located under sea level and that’s why this area is getting flooded always at first.

Some police guys tried to help us to find another Land Rover dealer but with no success – maybe they just wanted to have a look at our car.Police escort

We were lucky and got tickets for the ferry to Tangier in Morocco – departure time 6 p.m. We had time to cook in between all other cars waiting for embarking. An older couple travelling by bus trip to Barcelona called our car “Kasperletheater” and didn´t stop asking a hundred of questions.

Next day we had a stop over in Barcelona. We stopped for more than 5 hours without happening anything. But at least we saw some big cruise ships in the harbour. Passengers from both vessels waved to each other – what a funny species the human beings are.

The Party is over – back on the road

We crossed Denmark, arrived just before closing time at the AMR Outdoor Shop in Lüneburg where a very friendly salesperson worked overtime and helped us with all our questions and orders. Next morning in the middle of a forest (on the map it was called Rießel) we woke up and had a plastic bag hanging at the side mirror. Who left his garbage on our car – was the first thought.
But … it turned out to be three fresh bread rolls from a bakery. What a nice surprise. The day started great and on our way to Goslar we stopped at the Hundertwasser railway stattion in Uelzen.
In Goslar we could mount the awning in front of Alexanders parents house – the neighbours were wondering.
With Connis 88 year old aunt and her walking frame on the car roof we drove through Frankfurt and on our way further south to Erding we were chased by trucks on the Autobahn (our fastest speed was 90 km/h downhill).

In Erding we celebrated Alexanders birthday with more than 50 friends and a surprising magician. We packed, went shopping in Munich, mounted the second battery and the fridge and a lot of other equipment.

We have met so many kind people – thanks to everybody !
